How to Find a Job in Today’s Market

Finding a job in today’s market is not only hard work but quite necessary with all the continuous downsizing and growth in technology.  When we start a career search it can be very overwhelming at first but in most circumstances it can be one of the most rewarding experiences that will help you grow both professionally and personally.  The following document will help lead you in the right direction and give you a great place in which to start on your life’s journey.

Resume/Cover Letter

Complete and submit a Resume/Cover Letter for all jobs that are in the realm of work you are looking for.  The resume and cover letter should always be updated and written specifically for the job description that is being applied for.  This is important to show interest in the job and that there has been adequate research done for that specific position and company.  Whenever doable include the person’s study specific to the company.  This will show more interest and that filling the position is important enough to you to research the company and place you ahead of others applying for the position.

Prioritize job search importance:  Search is Full time Job

There must be a substantial amount of time and effort place into the job and career search to be successful.  The amount of time and effort will depend on the individual’s needs to get into a job or career.  If unemployed and a job is necessary for survival then the job hunt should be the full time job until employment is achieved.   This is very important as it might take several attempts to land a job.  If employed but looking for a superior position, geographical change or many other reasons then the job search will be continuous but might not be a full time job.  It is important however to continue searching, updating the cover letter and resume and to keep applying.

Research

Research is very important in finding a job or company that is suitable for your personality career needs and anything specific or important to the individual.  Research the job description and be sure that the job fits your qualifications and what you are looking for.  This is important as not to apply for a job that you are not eligible for and have no chance of getting as this could be very discouraging.  It is also important to look at the company and be sure it fits what you are looking for such as pay, vacation, benefits, and advancement.  This all depends on an individual’s needs and desires.  Try to find out the human resource or manager’s study in order to make the cover letter more personable and applicable to the mortal who will be reading it.

Training & Education

When looking to advance or find a job that is above and beyond your qualifications or looking for something different then there might be the need for additional training or education.  Be sure to complete any necessary education and training needed for the job and remember the more training for a specific position will only increase your chances for getting the position over those who might not have that same training or education related to the position being sought.  If the position requires a BA degree and you have attained an Associate Degree then this might not be an automatic disqualification if there is adequate experience to go along with the educational achievements.  It is important thought to be sure that the education level is sufficient.  More education might be needed and if this is the case there are many educational facilities acquirable including brick and mortar colleges and universities.  There is also the up and coming online education service that has become more acquirable and efficient all the time, especially for older students and those who have families or are currently working and time prevents them from attending a traditional school.  Financial Aid is acquirable for both types of colleges.

Resources & Networking

Networking can be a very huge advantage over many others in finding or getting leads on acquirable and open positions.  Whether it be on the internet, in school, in the grocery store, or any other social gathering where we interact with other people, networking is very advantageous in the job hunt.  Many times this will be a connection with someone who is already employed in a position similar to that you are searching for or it can be a company you are looking to get into but either way networking helps to find those openings that might not have been acquirable before.  This also works in your favor because if you find someone that works for a company they can be used as a reference or referral to get you into a company or position that you have been searching for.  Networking is an invaluable tool that should not be taken lightly and fully taken advantage of when searching for that dream job or career change.  Always keep you eyes and ears open and reach out and shake the hand of as many people you can.

There are a variety of resources acquirable in to help in the search for a career that is satisfying and rewarding.  There are many places that we are healthy to look for jobs or careers.  Use many of the following resources to look for that position and don’t get stuck using just one in order to open that doors for all doable leads that are available.

One of the most obvious places for all of us is via the world wide web and many sites that offer assistance in job searches.  To study a few there is Monster, Software Jobs.com, and hotjobs.com.  These are some of the larger job search networks that have many job listings in many different fields along with job descriptions and criteria necessary to meet the job’s responsibilities.  This is a great way to start searching for jobs as you are sure to land an interview if you are diligent in what you are looking for and determined to find something that suits you.  The more time and energy place into these searches, the more rewarding the results will be. 

There are many more localized website job searches that might be superior suited for many people.  They are the ones advertised locally on TV and broadcasting and might be sites that are listed for the people in the local area rather than those described early that are nationwide, even though the searches grant you to narrow down the geographical area that fits a appearance job hunter. 

Newspapers are another great resource that have local jobs and are looking for local people.  These jobs are very good opportunities for people who don’t plan to travel to far, providing it is a local paper to where the job hunter lives.  There are usually many different newspapers in any town or area and the Sunday paper will often have a more complete listing of job offers.  Along with the local papers there are career centers in many small and massive towns crossways the country that are there to help people find and train for the jobs and careers they are looking to embark on.
